About

The Willetton Community Garden Association Inc. (WCGA) is a volunteer-driven community organisation founded in 2015. Its roots trace back to the early support of the Rostrata Primary School Parents and Citizens Association, which helped lay the groundwork before the Association was officially established.

2014 – 2016

First steps in building garden infrastructure

Raised garden beds, storage sheds, reticulation and composting bays were constructed using recycled materials where practical.

Funding sources included grants from Lotterywest, the WA state government, the City of Canning, the Rotary Club of Willetton and in-kind support from Rostrata Primary School.

Building our community connections

Early harvests included tomatoes, zucchini and eggplant. The Willetton Community Garden gained more members and community partners to develop a welcoming space promoting sustainable gardening and social connections.

2020

A vital community resource

During the challenges of COVID-19, the garden provided a positive venue for people to spend productive time outdoors by themselves and then later in small groups following safety protocols.

Continuing to grow

More projects such as the upgrade of our reticulation systems, solar panels and batteries have been made possible through grants from the City of Canning, WA state government and our local MP Dr Jags Krishnan.
